Isolated Seasonal Wetlands(full-time wetlands, part-time water)

The names of wetlands vary depending on location--prairie potholes, Carolina bays, vernal pools, playa lakes, alpine ponds, desert depressions, swale ponds. They are called isolated, seasonal, temporary, depressional, and ephemeral. The origins and geology of these wetlands may differ, but the ecology is similar. They are all seasonal wetlands that harbor numerous plant, invertebrate, and amphibian species.

Wetlands come in many forms, shapes and sizes. However, the ecological value of isolated wetlands remains under-appreciated--many isolated wetlands are still in danger of destruction, as federal protection is limited, and state protection varies greatly among states.
